About us

Our integrated organisation was formed in April 2018 and is a commissioning partnership between NHS Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group and Wirral Council (Social Care and Public Health). We commission the majority of health and care services in Wirral and our integrated approach means that we can work to provide more seamless and effective services to people.

Our aim is to commission health and care services that are of a high standard, safe and equitable. We want to enable all people in Wirral to live longer and healthier lives by supporting them to lead healthy lifestyles and enabling people and communities to become active partners in their health and wellbeing.

As an integrated commissioner of health and care we can also work towards achieving a sustainable system by improving the efficiency of services and developing our workforce across Wirral to provide the best possible care to people.

Why we were formed

The aim of a more integrated approach to health and care has been a long held aspiration for a number of years. It has been recognised that services commissioned by different organisations can lead to a poor experience for people, as different organisations may have different priorities, procedures and demands.  Integrated commissioning allows us to remove any barriers or inefficiencies and also helps us to look to the future and build our services around the changing future needs of people and local communities.

Wirral is a unique place and we wanted to take the opportunity that having one NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and one Local Authority provides by working together and pooling some of our budgets. Both NHS Wirral CCG and Wirral Council remain as statutory organisations and both are still required to fulfil their statutory functions.

We have formed a Joint Strategic Commissioning Board (JSCB) which is made up of NHS Wirral CCG Governing Body members and some elected members of Wirral Council.  The JSCB is chaired jointly by the NHS Wirral CCG Chair and the Wirral Council Elected Member for Health and Care.
